Description About the Dynavector 20X2 Over more than 35 years, Dynavector has established an enviable reputation for producing affordable high quality moving coil cartridges. Both high and low output variants of the 20X2 are available, ensuring compatibility with pretty much any phono stage. The high output model is well suited to preamplifiers or electronics that only offer moving magnet inputs whilst the low output version offers superb performance when combined with dedicated moving coil inputs. Features and improvements The Dynavector 20X2 has a solid aluminium alloy body and a rigid magnet construction similar to XX2 MkII. The cantilever is a 6mm length of hard aluminum pipe with a Micro-Ridge stylus. The magnetic flux damping and softened magnetism along with powerful neodymium magnets gives the 20X2H high output variant a healthy 2.8 mV output, making it suitable for most MM inputs. The 20X2L low output variant has an output of 0.3 mV, perfect for most MC phono stages. Frequently Asked Questions What’s the difference between the 20X2H and 20X2L? Both use the same body, stylus and cantilever, but the 20X2H has a high output (2.8 mV) and is designed for use with MM phono stages, while the 20X2L has a lower output (0.3 mV) for MC stages. Choose the one that best suits your phono input. Does it need a special tonearm? No. The 20X2 works well with a wide range of medium to high mass tonearms. It’s not fussy, but rewards a properly set up arm with excellent tracking and resolution. How does it compare to a good MM cartridge? The 20X2 is a clear step up. You’ll notice better separation, cleaner transients, deeper bass, and far more space around instruments. It makes even familiar records sound fresh. Is the stylus user-replaceable? No. Like most moving coil cartridges, the 20X2 must be rebuilt or replaced once the stylus is worn. However, a generous trade-in allowance is usually available through authorised dealers. How long does it last? With careful setup and clean records, you can expect 1,500 hours of use before performance begins to drop. It’s built to last and delivers consistently over time. Will it make surface noise worse? No. In fact, the micro-ridge stylus profile often reduces perceived surface noise by tracing the groove more accurately and avoiding worn areas picked up by spherical or elliptical styli. How does it sound? The 20X2 has a clean, open presentation with natural timbre and excellent balance. It reveals detail without sounding analytical or harsh. Is it easy to install and align? Yes. The 20X2 uses a standard half-inch mount and is supplied with bolts that screw directly into pre-tapped threads in the cartridge body – no fiddling with nuts underneath. The body has straight edges for easy alignment using a standard protractor. Tracking force is typically set at 2.0 grams. Can I get help setting it up? Of course. We’re always happy to offer advice on setup and matching. Just get in touch and we’ll guide you through it. If you are local we also offer a fitting service.
