Description The Flex Eight is the 2 input channel / 8 output channel member of the miniDSP Flex family of advanced audio processors. miniDSP’s flexible hardware architecture has enabled them to cram a full eight channels of digital signal processing (DSP) and a world-class analogue output stage into the Flex Eight’s compact enclosure. With multiple digital inputs and eight RCA analogue output channels and flexible 2×8 signal routing, the miniDSP Flex Eight can be used to implement crossovers for a pair of four-way active speakers, integrate six subwoofers with a pair of stereo speakers or whatever else you can imagine. Flexible 2 in / 8 out signal routing supports many other configurations such as two way, three way and multiple subwoofers. As with all miniDSP audio processors, Flex Eight includes a full suite of miniDSP’s proven digital signal processing functionality. At its heart is a powerful 32-bit floating point 400Mhz Analog Devices SHARC DSP. It offers FIR filters and parametric EQ on the input channels, and parametric EQ, crossovers, advanced biquad programming and delay on each output channel. The optional two-channel Dirac Live room correction can be unlocked by purchasing an additional $199 (~£150) licence. There is also an optional AutoEQ licence available for $30 (~£23). AutoEQ simplifies taking measurements and designing filters with Room EQ Wizard (REW). Flex Eight has USB, S/PDIF (RCA and optical) and Bluetooth (LDAC / aptX) stereo digital audio inputs. An OLED display and volume control / rotary encoder on the front panel provides easy control, and an infrared remote control handset is included for even greater convenience. Flex Eight is also compatible with the miniDSP KD-1 smart controller. Last but not least, firmware updates are delivered over the internet via the new Device Manager app for macOS and Windows. The miniDSP Flex Eight is the perfect solution for a modern compact integrated active speaker or multiple subwoofer system. You just need to let your creativity do the rest. Even the most expensive speakers cannot overcome the challenges of poor room acoustics, which create uneven frequency responses, boomy or muddy bass, and a lack of clarity. Digital room correction tackles these issues by analysing the room’s behaviour and applying precise adjustments to deliver a balanced, accurate sound. Investing in an audio processor with room correction is one of the most effective and value-for-money ways to improve your system. Rather than upgrading hardware, you can unlock the full potential of your existing equipment by addressing the root cause of many audio issues – your room. The results are transformative. Improved clarity and detail by correcting frequency peaks and nulls. Enhanced bass response with tighter, more controlled low frequencies. A more natural soundstage through better phase and timing alignment. miniDSP is a leader in digital room correction, offering powerful and flexible solutions for tackling room acoustics. miniDSP Flex and SHD audio processors make it easy to achieve exceptional sound quality, in any room. miniDSP Flex Model Comparison The miniDSP Flex series offers a range of versatile audio processors designed to meet different needs, from standard stereo setups to advanced home theatre configurations. Each model in the Flex lineup – including the Flex, Flex Digital, Flex Balanced and Flex Eight – is equipped with unique features tailored for specific applications, such as balanced outputs, digital-only processing or additional output channels. The table below provides a side-by-side comparison of the Flex Eight and the RCA version of the miniDSP Flex 2×4, highlighting key differences and similarities to help you choose the ideal miniDSP processor for your setup. It provides a simple measurement and EQ tool for users who may not wish to learn the full feature set of tools such as Room EQ Wizard. It uses Room EQ Wizard behind the scenes, but automates the measurement and EQ design process. AutoEQ is tightly integrated into Device Console and will automatically apply the resulting filters to your chosen output channel.
