Fender Custom Telecaster (1967) inc Hard Case (EXTREMELY RARE)

The 1967 Fender Custom Telecaster is a highly sought-after vintage instrument that sits at a fascinating crossroads in Fender’s history. It represents the final year of “pre-CBS” era construction standards before more aggressive corporate changes took hold. In the 1960s, the “Custom” designation specifically referred to a Telecaster with a double-bound body (binding on both the top and back). The 1967 model is distinctive for its transition-era specs, blending early ’60s feel with late ’60s aesthetics. Feature Specification Body Usually Alder for Sunburst/Custom colours; Ash for Blonde finishes. Binding Black nitrocellulose binding on both the front and back of the body. Neck Maple with a “C” profile. The “Maple Cap” (separate maple fretboard) was common. Fingerboard Many featured Rosewood (round-laminated), though Maple was an option. Radius Vintage-correct 7.25″ radius with small vintage frets. Pickups Two single-coil pickups with Alnico 5 magnets and plain enamel wire. Tuners Kluson Deluxe 1967 was the year Fender officially changed the Telecaster’s wiring. Before this, the 3-way switch included a “Dark Circuit” (a pre-set bassy sound in the neck position). Post-1967 Wiring: Position 1 (Bridge), Position 2 (Bridge Neck in parallel), and Position 3 (Neck). 1 Meg Pots: Fender began using 1 Megohm potentiometers in late ’67. These let more high frequencies through, giving the guitar a much brighter, “glassier” twang compared to the warmer 250k pots used earlier in the decade.
